The 2019 YSEALI Summit marks YSEALI’s sixth anniversary and will bring together 150 YSEALI alumni from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member nations and Timor-Leste. The summit’s theme is “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” and the goal is to engage the participants on critical regional topics and to promote civic engagement, sustainable development, education, and economic growth. The YSEALI summit will focus on growth, innovation and sustainability in ASEAN and Timor-Leste and will strengthen ties between the United States and the next generation of South-East Asian leaders.
Rua Hang Yao
Rua Hang Yao/เรือหางยาว (long-tail boat) is a traditional wooden boat commonly seen on Phuket’s beaches. The boats are used to ferry tourists from island to island, and also used to bring fishermen and their supplies to their daily fishing grounds, creating a source of income for coastal villagers and keeping the local economy afloat.
The YSEALI Summit 2019 logo represents a united and dynamic YSEALI moving forward together. Red, blue, and yellow sashes represent the main colors of the crests of all the Southeast Asian nations, Timor-Leste, and the United States, bound together in friendship. The six sashes represent the 6th YSEALI Summit. Highly economical and sustainable, the Rua Hang Yao is made up of biodegradable timber and uses a recycled tractor or car motor. It symbolizes local identity, sustainability and unity.
