The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Knowledge Network on Climate Change and ASEAN Social Forestry Network held a workshop on Safeguard Information Systems from September 9 to 11 in Jakarta. The Center for People and Forests, the USAID Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests program and USAID Grassroots Equity and Enhanced Networks in the Mekong program provided support for the workshop and the participation of representatives from the ASEAN civil society. During the workshop the two ASEAN bodies drafted of a three-year work plan and developed ASEAN’s submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 20th Conference of Parties (COP 20), to be held in Lima, Peru this December. They agreed to seek endorsement of the USAID LEAF-supported Decision Support Tool on Identifying and Addressing Drivers of Deforestation and Degradation by the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry prior to its launch at COP 20.
