YSEALI members are making a difference. In the coming weeks, we will feature young leaders across the ASEAN region who have participated in YSEALI programs and show how joining this community has helped them grow professionally and personally.

Ryan Louie G. Madrid believes one of the greatest challenges facing Southeast Asia is meeting basic needs after a disaster. That’s why he co-founded an organization that helps at-risk communities develop and install green roof panels, which generate power, grow food, retain heat and collect rainwater. Ryan joined YSEALI so that he and other entrepreneurs could “share ideas and improve our projects for a more sustainable and climate-adaptive ASEAN.”
Ryan says that empathy is important when conducting projects aimed at helping marginalized or disadvantaged communities. By understanding people’s needs, not only can you gain their trust and support, but you will also be able to identify more effective solutions and ultimately have a more meaningful impact.
