YSEALI members are making a difference. In the coming weeks, we will feature young leaders across the ASEAN region who have participated in YSEALI programs and show how joining this community has helped them grow professionally and personally.

Muhamad Abas is grateful for the investment his family has made in his education. Now he wants to give back. So he has been volunteering at the American Corner at his university, where, thanks to his help organizing English conversational classes, literacy programs and movie days, the number of visitors has increased to 500 a week.

Abas, as he is known, enjoys volunteering because it gives him the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with a variety of people. Networking with people from different backgrounds, he says, is key to creating a successful project.

Everyone can give back to his or her community, Abas says. “Find the volunteering topic that you like, find the place and just start your volunteering. Just start it right now!
