Smart Cities Business Innovation Fund

Brief Description of Scope of Work:

Under this task order, CN3S invites proposals for funding a sustainable net-zero/low carbon solution to address a documented urban challenge according to the criteria below. This call for proposals is funded by the U.S. ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership (USASCP) of the U.S. Department of State.

Eligibility to Apply: Stakeholders (small businesses, NGOs and universities) from eligible ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) Countries:

  • Cambodia and Laos (environment and health projects only)
  • Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam

Solutions may be technological, nature-based, financial, organizational, or take another form to meet the services needs in the water, transport, energy, waste, health, education, housing and/or other priority urban sector. Supporting materials that describe the local urban challenge (e.g., local planning documents, government policies, university research, etc.) are required.

Applications from Cambodia and Laos must be for environmental and health related projects only and may involve public universities. ###

U.S.-ASEAN Internship Program

Connect and the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) have developed the U.S.-ASEAN Internship Program to highlight internship opportunities for Southeast Asian students at top U.S. companies operating in Southeast Asia. The internship program will offer local students an opportunity to better understand the U.S. style of doing business and potentially secure employment after graduation, while also helping U.S. companies to recruit the best future employees. Internship opportunities will be updated regularly on internships.usasean.org.

The U.S.-ASEAN Internship Program online platform and support materials connect leading U.S. companies with ASEAN’s brightest young people for internships that launch careers and develop the next generation of young professionals. Through the program website, internships.usasean.org, top U.S. companies including Access Partnership, Becton Dickinson, Cisco, Expedia, General Electric, Microsoft, Seagate, Procter & Gamble and others internships available at their offices across Southeast Asia. The website allows students to search for internships by country, company, and area of specialty.

U.S.-ASEAN Online Small and Medium Enterprise Academy

In collaboration with ASEAN and the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, supported by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), we launched the ASEAN SME Online Academy (http://www.asean-sme-academy.org/). This one-stop resource links small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to regional and global supply chains and allows users to take courses on topics ranging from finance to technology.  Facebook, Google, HP, Microsoft and MasterCard have contributed to the development of the academy’s coursework. A resources section links users to more than 300 business associations, corporate initiatives, financial services and government services. Learn more.

The Ambassador’s Water Experts Program

The United States Department of Interior—International Technical Assistance Program (DOI-ITAP) has a dedicated line of funding to send experts to Mekong countries through 2023. Possible engagements include hydrology, hydropower optimization, fish passage, sedimentation, sand mining, riverine plastics, or any other topics that are related broadly to water management in the region.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS Overseas Fellow program is an excellent way to bring cutting-edge scientific and technical expertise to support abroad.
