Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN Bloggers Indonesian Chapter organized a one-day Seminar in Jakarta, August 24, 2013. The theme of the event was “ASEAN Connectivity towards ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015: The Role and Contributions of Bloggers and Social Media in facing the ASEAN Economic Integration” which focused on bloggers’ roles for the 2015 ASEAN Economic Community goals and in building ASEAN identity.
The event was opened by remarks from H.E. I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja, Director General for ASEAN Cooperation at the Indonesia Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tifatul Sembiring, the Indonesia Minister of Communication and Information Tecnology. Mr. Tifatul delivered an animated speech, motivating the audience to look to Indonesia’s rich diversity of natural, cultural, and human resources to share with the region and “campaign” for Indonesia as it undertakes its ICT plans to improve connectivity. Ambassador Carden gave a rousing talk focused on the common language of ideas to achieve community. He shared the U.S. perspective on AEC, U.S. programming support through ACTI, and our public diplomacy experience through social media. Approximately 150 bloggers, university students and entrepreneurs attended the event.
