This coming ASEAN Day, we celebrate the resilience of ASEAN by coming together & joining hands amid the pandemic. As we continue to strive to be one ASEAN community, we are inviting you to showcase your talents through the ASEAN Appreciation – Express Yourself contest!
If you are a lover of poetry or music, this opportunity is your chance to unleash your talents to the region. Plus you could win an exclusive YSEALI swag bag! The deadline to submit your poem or song is August 10, 2021.

Eligibility
- You must be a registered YSEALI member (not a member yet? Join here!).
- Participants must be a citizen and resident of one of the YSEALI countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam)
- Must be between 18-35 years old
- Can be an individual submission or a maximum of 3 members in a group

Contest Rules
Poem Submission:
- Provide a recording in which you are reciting an original poem (1-2 minutes duration)
- Provide the poem written in English
- Poem submission length: maximum 20 lines
- Poem must be related to the theme: Resilience
- Poems must not contain inappropriate language and/or messages directed against groups
- Poem must be original and not be plagiarized or taken from someone else’s work
Song Cover Submission:
- Provide a video in which you sing a song cover
- Participant or participants may perform a capella, using a minus-one track, or the participant or participants may play an instrument
- Song must be in English and by an American artist
- Participant must include the name of the song and artist name in the video
- The song cover should include verse 1 and chorus
- Song submission duration: 1-2 minutes (Under 2 minutes)
- Song must be related to the theme: Resilience
- Song must not contain inappropriate language and/or messages directed against groups
Songwriting Submission:
- Provide a video performance in which an original song is performed
- The group’s song composer is not required to sing the song
- Participant/s may perform a capella or the participant or participants may play an instrument
- Song must be in English
- Song must be related to the theme: Resilience
- Song must not contain inappropriate language and/or messages directed against groups
- Song must be original and not be plagiarized or taken from someone else’s work
- Song submission duration: 1-2 minutes (Under 2 minutes)
Scoring Criteria
Song and poem submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
- Must be related to the theme of “Resilience”
- Have a strong message
- Performance/Act
- Video’s creativity
- Duration
Giveaway Terms & Conditions:
- The prize: YSEALI Goodie Bag with exclusive YSEALI swags!
- The YSEALI Team will contact the person who has been selected to receive the YSEALI Goodie Bag. If the person whose submission has been selected does not respond in three business days upon receiving the news, YSEALI reserves the right to select another recipient.
- YSEALI may ask finalists to provide identification documents to verify eligibility.
- Winners will be invited to to showcase their poem/song on August 27 at 18:00 to 20:30 (GMT+7) at the “YSEALI Celebrates YOUth” open mic event via Zoom to celebrate International Youth Day.
- The giveaway will be sent via postal delivery. The participant who has been selected to receive the giveaway must provide a valid mailing address to receive their prize once our team reaches out. If the recipient provides an invalid address and the giveaway bounces back to us, we may pick another recipient.
- All decisions are final.
