Sentul, Indonesia: Ambassador Carden joined Indonesia Armed Forces Commander, General Moeldoko, to open the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Counter-Terrorism Exercise (CTX) today in Sentul, Indonesia. Indonesia is highlighting the CTX as the world’s biggest counter-terrorism exercise. Gen Moeldoko said the CTX will develop military capabilities by exchanging best practices and demonstrating tactics, techniques, and procedures among military forces in support of law enforcement or other designated government agencies. Ambassador Carden invited regional military participants to expand cooperation, build capabilities, and share the lessons learned from this exercise, and to be mindful of other issues like food security and fisheries. Military representatives from the 10 ASEAN Member States and the eight (8) Plus countries will participate in a table top exercise (TTX) and various practical vignettes this week and conclude on September 13. This is the second of three ADMM-Plus practical cooperation exercises this year, the first of which was the Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief/Military Medicine exercise in Brunei in June, and the third will be the Maritime Security exercise in Jervis Bay, Sydney, September 28-29.
