U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN David Carden joined Ambassadors from the ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) for a reception on board the USS Blue Ridge, the command and control ship for the U.S. Seventh Fleet.
“It is truly an honor for us to welcome members of the ASEAN CPR on board the USS Blue Ridge,” said Amb. Carden. “This magnificent ship really lives up to its motto – Finest in the Fleet – and is the perfect example of the United States’ dedication to peace and stability in the ASEAN region. We are very proud of the Blue Ridge’s history of humanitarian support in Asia, and of the dedicated men and women serving on board.”
The USS Blue Ridge is in Jakarta for a routine port call and goodwill visit that highlights the United States’ commitment to security and humanitarian assistance in region. It recently made similar port calls in other ASEAN countries such as Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam, often accompanied by crew participation in community service projects.
For more than 30 years, the Blue Ridge has maintained a presence in Southeast Asia, strengthening ties in the region through community service projects and conducting joint military exercises. The 18,500-ton ship, the flagship of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, is capable of accommodating more than 1,000 crew members. The U.S. Seventh Fleet is commanded by Vice Admiral Scott Swift.
