U.S. Department of State Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Assistance Dr. Tracy Carson met with Deputy-Secretary General Binh at the ASEAN Secretariat and toured the AHA Centre while meeting with Executive Director  Mr. Lee Yam Ming during her visit to Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.   

Accompanied  by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA) Mission Director, Dr. Steven G. Olive, both Dr. Carson and Dr. Olive conveyed recognition of USAID assistance to ASEAN as the most visible U.S. government assistance with strong buy-in and endorsement from the ASEAN Secretariat and member states as a key point during discussions. 

Dr. Carson and Dr. Olive also met newly appointed U.S. Mission to ASEAN Ambassador Abraham, which provided an opportunity to spotlight expanded engagement with ASEAN and highlight appreciation for USASEAN’s as well as USAID’s integral role to support the U.S. government’s strategic expanded engagement in the ASEAN region. 

Leading up to these meetings, USAID/RDMA Mission Director Olive also toured the Indonesian National Single Window, the ASEAN Centre for Energy, and met with lead representatives of ASEAN-affiliated entities and institutional organizations during a roundtable discussion on past partnership successes, challenges and opportunities ahead.   Learn more about USAID ASEAN’s work: USAID in ASEAN.
