“YSEALI Generation – Ideas into Action”

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) will bring together 103 young leaders from the 10 ASEAN member countries for an inaugural training program in Kuala Lumpur. The focus of the YSEALI Generation: Ideas into Action workshop is to build leadership skills among young Southeast Asians by giving them management and professional tools to tackle what Southeast Asian youth have identified as their greatest challenges:
- civic engagement
- economic development
- environmental protection
Participants will collaborate on how to improve social and economic conditions in their communities and forge new partnerships with peers from neighboring countries to jointly carry out community projects. The workshop’s goal is to connect young Southeast Asian leaders to each other and to mentors who are successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, and community leaders in the region and from the United States.
U.S. Department of State Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Richard Stengel will give the keynote speech and highlight the U.S. government’s commitment to engage with youth from Southeast Asia. Other dignitaries who will be attending are U.S. Ambassador Joseph Y. Yun, the Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports YB Encik Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, the Malaysian Secretary General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance and Chairman of MaGIC Ybhg Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, and Ambassadors to Malaysia of ASEAN countries.
